In my personal opinion there has been no harder worker than Dominique Chiu who organised the Berkshire county despite not living in Berkshire herself as not being local, she found it very hard to recruit helpers for this event.
Paul and I were discussing the riots on our way to London and wondering if the riots would come towards Southwark where we were doing the London leg in the Spots 8 Stripes club and organised by Nigel Smith.
know that I keep harping on about the hospitality of everyone as everyone has been extremely nice and accommodating, but I think these guys stand out above the rest for the simple fact that apart from setting up the arena, everything was taken care of.
After stopping longer than usual for lunch at at Phil’s, we left by 11.30 and arrived in Waltham Cross at 1pm. With a space provided for the van and readily available electricity, setting up was quick and efficient.
Well, today was thoroughly enjoyable for many reasons. First, it meant I got the opportunity to see my god-son, George, Phil Harrison’s son who I have been best friends with for twenty years and more and how he has grown!
Well, today is the day that Paul Mason joins me for his own ‘mini-tour’. The reality is, Paul is helping me for the last 16 days due to the impending birth of my first child, but also, it will allow me to have a little breather here and there.
I am going to keep this short. I have never in my lift felt so lethargic and so depleted of energy. I brought my bicycle with me with every intention of getting a bit of exercise every day, but the whole thing is so tiring that...
I arrived in Witney late due to a vey bad night and despite plenty of help, I felt shattered once the arena was set up. For the rest of the morning and all afternoon, I just tried to rest and recuperate but it was hard as the thermometer showed 33 degr...
I think with the heat and the constant wearing daily routine things finally caught up with me as I came down with either a bad cold or the flu. Either way, I felt like sh*t and I just...
It was just as well that I finished the previous day...
An exciting day for me. Not the fact that it will be exhibition number 24, but the fact that the exhibition was from 2pm until 6pm, which means after packing away and driving down to Gloucestershire and setting up...
A fairly long drive today, but this was done in two stages. The first was to drive to Worcester (venue for the 31st) to park the caravan in Lee and Sarah West’s drive for maintenance. When I say maintenance, I mean for both the caravan and myself...
Having left extra early, due to Argos deliveries in Kettering, I was in Nuneaton, parked up and set up by 10am which was quite nice as I then had all day to get my work done but more importantly...
A fairly short 50 minute drive along the A14 from Cambridge saw my arrival in Kettering hit a few problems. First of all, there didn’t seem to be anywhere to park, and I had no idea how to get round the back which...
Perfect venue as far as the van and caravan goes. I drive there, pull up right outside the venue, unload with the help of Stephen MacDonald and his merry men, drive round a house that is perched in the middle of the car park...
Today, I did a most incredulously stupid thing.
When I left the Macebearer, I had received help in pushing the caravan out from the spot it was parked in, and attaching it together. Because of this, I slacked and did not do the full check...
Upon leaving this pretty town, some 74 miles and 90 minutes later, I arrived in Bury St Edmunds, the home of the Greene King pub, Macebearer.
As mentioned the previous day, unless something exciting happens, I will...
Although this is about Sunday in Rutland, the actual fact is I am writing this on Friday 29th in my caravan, right next to the thunderous traffic of the main road - until I realised that...
Today was the last day (again) that I was to have with Corinne - originally, Corinne was staying at her parents but when I decided to use home as my base for the surrounding counties, Corinne decided to come home so we could spend a bit more time together
Today, I left home early to get to the Shropshire venue for 2pm as no-one would be at the venue between 3pm and 7pm, but I would take this opportunity to spend some time with Donna (Evans) and catch up on all the going ons over the past couple of weeks as
It was lovely waking up in my own bed, next to my wife and the bump between us…
I have to admit that I am starting to get nervous about it all now, and last night I kept checking my phone to see if I had any missed calls...
Well, how can I describe today?
First of all, it was wonderful sleeping in my own bed where I don’t have to bed my legs to get a good night’s sleep, and of course to wake up next to my lovely wife. Not only that, we were able to watch with fasc...
At midday, I bade farewell to my lovely wife and in-laws and set off on the M62 from Hull to Stockport for the first of seven Greene King venues throughout the challenge.
There is no report. I did sod-all and damn right too. I’m gonna enjoy my day off! Not quite true . .
When I left, Jo Coe understandably excused herself from the task of getting the caravan back through the gates. I can’t say I blame her as playing pool with one hand is hard enough without risking the loss of the other hand . .
After a hearty breakfast consisting of beans, hash browns, bacon, sausages and two slices of toast, washed down with tea, I was ready to set of at the somewhat late time of 10.30am.
Normally, my daily blog starts with “Got up at 8am” except today it doesn’t. It pretty much continues from last night, but after midnight it’s classed as the next day.
I arrived at JJ’s Pool Club in Liverpool at 11.30am but not before the Sat Nav took a wrong turn and took me into a residential area. I could not believe just how many speed humps there were...
As usual, I was up and about for 8am and off by 8.45am. The Great York Show was on - yeah - in Harrogate! I had heard about it, but I just didn’t realise the sheer scale of it...
I had a bit of a lie-in and didn’t get up till 8.30, so I got my full 8 hours sleep which is what I need to function properly. I remembered to eat some breakfast before I left this time!
With a plan to set off at 9am, I woke at 7.30am and got the caravan ready for towing.
“Go away Sun!”.
This has nothing to do with the recent controversy surrounding the News of the World. .
Finally, after eighteen months of planning, I was finally here and ready to go. Or I thought I was.
No sooner had I driven out of my drive, the wheel jockey broke and became wedged underneath, so I had to...
